What is the FIMalyzer?

The FIMalyzer analyzes the configuration of FIM 2010 installations (portal, sync and code components) and presents the output either interactively, or in the form of a Word report.

The Word report can be configured with your own styles, and additional text and graphics – so that your customized report can be regenerated directly into your chosen final format every time your system configuration changes. The report can of course be printed, but as it is fully cross-referenced with hyperlinks, it is perhaps most useful in an online form. Since Word can compare documents very effectively, if you produce two reports for two systems (e.g. test and production), you can compare the reports and easily identify differences.

By using the FIMalyzer interactively you can, for example: examine the properties of any object; follow links between objects in both directions, and hence follow chains of causality (which objects reference a particular Set, which Workflows reference a particular sycn rule, etc.); search for objects by usage keyword (so if you have used keywords intelligently, you can see what objects are visible to which class of user) - and so on.

When do I need a License?

You can download and use the FIMalyzer against a sample project (which is provided) free of charge. For each FIM configuration you are analyzing, you will need to purchase a license. This license is intended for use with one production environment.

How does the FIMalyzer work?

The general principle of operation is that you:

• Export the FIM Synchronisation Service configuration (Export Server configuration)

• Export the FIM Server (Portal) configuration using the PowerShell CmdLets

• Identify any source code that is part of the configuration

These are all placed in sub-folders all within a folder for the project which is then made available to the FIMalyzer. The FIMalyzer runs against this configuration, allowing you to explore it and/or generate a report based on it. The report can include whichever parts of the configuration you choose and also include other manually generated documents which may form part of your overall documentation.

Quotes from recent users:

"I’ve now been using your FIMalyzer product for several months (and before that I did use the OCG the Documentor). I just have to tell you how much time and effort it has saved me – I couldn’t possibly have produced anything close to this by hand – and now I can generate a tailored report in minutes, and what’s even better is that when we make changes to the configuration, I just need to re-run the report. Never has our documentation been so up-to-date and accurate!"

"I am particularly impressed with the way that the FIMalyzer extracts code from our source library and automatically includes it within the report – more than once this has quickly resolved am otherwise intractable discussion – and on one occasion I was able to use the code in the report to reinstate a rule that a customer had rather stupidly modified."

"The reporting alone would justify the cost of the product, but the object explorer is the icing on the cake. Using this feature I can now work out all the dependencies between the different FIM objects, finding which MPRs are triggered by a particular Set, or which Workflows are associated with a Sync Rule; best of all I can quickly see where usage keywords are referenced, saving hours of unreliable hunting."

"I use the FIMalyzer on every project – and I can’t imagine being without it. Great product guys!"
